In the past year or so, there has been an increasing trend in “conscious travelling” and in this post, we’re going to let you know what this really means and whether it’s something you might consider exploring in the future. it has become particularly popular in the luxury travel industry which is why we thought it would be best to let our readers know how this can impact how you book your luxury holidays going forward!

First of all, what does conscious travelling really mean? Well to keep it short it’s a travel experience that empowers people to make lasting and meaningful changes in their life. You would think that something like this may be associated with adventure holidays, however there has been an increasing shift of conscious travelling to the luxury market. The reason for this according to most people who consciously travel, say that there is no greater luxury than personal fulfilment.

It really is a way of making the way you travel mean something, with most people these days wanting something more out of a holiday. They might go somewhere they wouldn’t usually visit and try something that gives them a different perspective. Whether that’s exploring villages in Thailand, or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, conscious travelling can be anywhere that helps you feel a sense of purpose or achieve a different view. Make sure that when you visit these locations, that you really embrace the culture of their society. This could mean you need to do a little research but over time this will likely become easier, respecting customs and lifestyles are all a part of the experience and will enhance your trip even more.

This may sound a bit obvious, but try to adopt some awareness to the place you are staying. It’s likely that the destination you visit may have a whole host of problems that are not present where you live, so try not to complain if something isn’t quite as accessible compared to home. Not everywhere will able to supply to a cheeseburger with fries, maybe try some of the local cuisine instead and expand your palette? There are plenty of great meals you can try abroad, with each location offering a different level of food.

Helping local communities are also a popular aspect, with a lot of travellers helping where they can. This could be bringing deflated footballs, medical supplies, stationary, pet supplies etc. It gives a good feeling amongst visitors and helps them know that they are giving back where they can amongst the local population. Don’t be afraid to just chat to some residents just to get a feel for the location, you could learn some valuable information to take back home with you or just become a bit more aware of other situations around the world.
