The Best Standing Desks

for your office that will rise for to the occasion

Sitting at a desk all day can cause aches, pains and long-term damage. One of the quickest and easiest ways of alleviating these issues is switching from a conventional desk to one that allows you to stand up while you work. Standing desks have become increasingly popular and sought after in recent months. With much of the world working from home, considering your comfort and safety while working is more important than ever.

You don’t need us to tell you that standing helps your posture, keeps you moving, improves circulation and much more. While we don’t claim it’s a cure-all, being able to break up an entire day of sitting down with a half an hour here and there of standing up can also go a long way to improving your productivity and wellbeing.

There are some who may wish to stand all day, but for those who wish to do it periodically, this is where getting an adjustable standing desk may be a good option. Having the flexibility to alter the height of your working area so that you can switch from sitting down to standing up without having to rearrange your desk area is always a bonus.

When choosing your standing or adjustable desk there is one main choice to be made. You can opt to replace your desk entirely or utilise an on-desk solution.

The latter allows you to keep your existing desk, which is likely to be cheaper, but generally means you only get enough adjustable desk space for your computer. Whereas, if you go for a whole desk replacement you get the full expanse of your workspace at any height. A bonus of buying a brand new full-size adjustable desk is that you can also lower it to below the normal height of a desk, making it entirely customisable and potentially more comfortable for your individual needs when sitting.

To help you get an idea of what’s out there, we’ve compiled some of our favourite options by looking at style, ease of installation, how easy they are to adjust, build quality and of course the price.

FLYTTA 2 Standing Desk

The FLYTTA 2 Desk makes it easy to adjust height with its handy digital display memory switch, which allows you to save your height settings and valuable time. The different options are perfect for those who work at different levels for various tasks.

The extendable high-grade steel frame is supported by dual motors which makes adjusting the height of the desk a smooth experience. With a lift capacity of 120kg the desk is suitable for even heavy computers, and with a height adjustment range of 71-121cm, you’re sure to find the perfect sweet spot. There are four desktop sizes to choose from, so be careful to not end up ordering the default size by mistake if you have lots of kit.

There’s some straightforward assembly required, which is indicated to take a couple of hours, but the result is worth it. The Flytta 2 isn’t the cheapest on the market but it is one of the sturdiest and most durable desks out there and guaranteed to last.

Fellowes Lotus Ve Sit-Stand Workstation

This workstation provides you with the option to adjust to standing height when you feel the need to stretch your legs. This adjustable desk has been designed to be clamped to your existing office desk.

This is one of our favourites as the unit itself is fairly compact, with a much smaller footprint than other sit-stand desk converters. By using the handy levers either side of the waterfall platform you can raise and lower the desk to a height that suits you.

You’ll need to put it together yourself when it arrives as it comes in pieces. Like all sit-stand systems, it doesn’t work well with clutter so keep your desk space clear of other bits and bobs where possible.

Freedesk Large

Originally a Kickstarter project this is by far the cheapest and simplest standing desk solution on our list. This simple tea tray style device uses an elasticated folding leg system to pop up.

The mechanism works well and it’s easy to adjust the top to your desired height despite being so simple. It can be folded completely flat to use as it is when you feel like sitting down or to be easily be stowed away somewhere at the weekends.

The Eiger Pro Standing Desk

The Eiger Pro Standing Desk is one for those who are looking for something a little different. The unique design, made from birch plywood, is probably one you’ll either love or hate.

The adjustable platforms slot in at different heights allowing you to place your laptop and other work necessities at arm’s length. The well-grounded base keeps things secure but with this particular desk you sacrifice a little functionality as you won’t be able to set up all your desk paraphernalia if you want to keep the stand versatile.
