IMPROVE YOUR OWN WELLBEING AS A TRAVELLER

INTRODUCTION

As a frequent business traveller, you’ll understand the reality of constantly being on the go and how travelling can really start to take it’s toll on you – both physically and mentally. It’s important not just for employees, but for employers also, to understand the stresses that travelling can have on you and understand ways to relieve this.

If you’re feeling run down from business travel, or are just looking for ways to keep your energy levels high when travelling, then we’ve got some top tips to help you feel like the best version of yourself on your next business trip.

CONSIDER YOUR SCHEDULE

When planning business trips we know sometimes it can feel like everything happens at once, and suddenly you’re travelling on two long haul trips, and a short haul trip all within the space of a couple of weeks. But it’s important to consider your schedule where you can. Try not to take too many long-haul flights close together, you need to give your body time to recover from any jet lag.

MAKE TIME FOR REST

It’s quite common for businesses to ask you to travel during the evening so as to maximise the amount of available working hours in a day, but this can begin to catch up with you if you’re unable to get a quality nights sleep when travelling. So, make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to sleep and rest – whether this means coming into the office later the morning after landing, or booking a day off to recover.

STAY ACTIVE

We know it’s sometimes the last thing on your mind when on a business trip, but the endorphins you get from exercising are an incredible energiser and can really lift your mood too. Even if you fit in time for a walk around the city, or a quick jog through the park of an evening. Staying active is key to really looking after your own mental and physical wellbeing.

TAKE TIME OUT

When you’re travelling for business, then attending business meetings and responding to business emails, it’s easy to feel that you’ve lost any sense of work life balance. It’s important to still carry on allowing for ‘you’ time, even when on a business trip. Make sure you fit in time for something you enjoy doing – reading your favourite book, getting booked into an exercise class, or even taking a relaxing bath.

STICK TO HEALTHY HABITS

It can be all too easy to let yourself slip out of any healthy habits you’ve established at home, when you’re away on business. But for the sake of your mental and physical health it’s important to try and stick to the same healthy routines your body is used to, whether this means regular exercise, keeping hydrated, eating healthily – or all three!
