Travelling for business can often feel like a chore, especially if you have an already jam-packed schedule and barely have time to prepare for your trip. Want to know how to improve your business travel experience? We’ve compiled some helpful advice to make your next trip more enjoyable.

Pack Light

If you’re able to just take a carry-on, then do! You’ll thank yourself later when at the end of a long flight you don’t have to hang around baggage claim and are free to head straight for your next meeting. So keep it minimal and pack only the essentials. If you’re a frequent flyer, why not create a go-to tick-list on your phone that you can have to hand every time you need to pack for business travel.

Switch-Off After Take-Off

We know it can be easier said than done when you’ve got a pressing deadline or work you need to prepare before you reach your destination. But why not make the most of your flight time during your business travel and properly switch off? It’s not often in this day and age, that we get time to ourselves away from the distractions of modern life – particularly if you’re on board a plane with no wi-fi! – so, why not embrace being switched off from everything and get some rest.  We recommend trying a mindfulness app to truly indulge in your time offline, when you reach your destination you’ll feel refreshed and raring to go.

Keep Important Information To Hand

When travelling for business it’s important to be as prepared as possible, in case of any number of eventualities it’s a good idea to keep a list of important numbers to hand. These could include but aren’t limited to, the number of the airline you’re flying with, the number of your Travel Management Company, and a contact for your accommodation. It’s also a good idea to be aware of your rights as a passenger just in case your flight is delayed or cancelled – these can be changeable from airline to airline. We recommend keeping a copy of these and a photocopy of your passport in The Cloud, if your passport ever goes missing then you’ll easily be able to access a digital copy.

Choose Accommodation Wisely

When it comes on deciding where to stay, we recommend being as picky as possible! It’s important to choose somewhere which is not only going to make your trip more straightforward, but also more enjoyable. Whether you’d like to opt for someone close to the airport, or perhaps close to an office or conference location, figure out what will make your life easiest on your business travel, and choose accommodation accordingly.

Comfort Over Style

To truly make your business travel experience enjoyable, we recommend taking every step you can to make your trip as comfortable as possible. If you’re able to, opt for business class, book an airport lounge, or choose extra leg room. All of these little additions can make a huge difference in the enjoyment of your trip.

Make Time For Down Time

Try and incorporate a little bit of leisure time into your business trip, something that truly allows you to switch off from a day of business – just like you would do if you were at home. Being able to switch off in-between meetings or at the end of the day is just as important when you’re travelling for business, as it is on any typical day. Why not find a nice route for a run, try a fitness class or source out a local bar.

Bring Some Home Comforts

Whether you’re planning on being away from home for a few weeks, or even just for an overnight stay, having a few home comforts around you can help you settle into a ‘normal’ routine much quicker. This could extend to anything from bringing along your favourite tea bags to enjoy in the morning to bringing along framed photos of your family to put up in your room.
