Ryanair have announced this week that they will be flying from London Southend Airport as of April 2019, making Southend their 14th UK base.

Launching next Summer, Ryanair will be scheduling 55 flights a week to locations across Spain and Greece, including: Alicante, Barcelona Reus, Bilbao, Brest, Corfu, Cluj, Dublin, Faro, Kosice, Mala, Milan Bergamo, Palma and Venice. These flights are expected to serve an additional one million passengers a year.

Chief Commercial Office at Ryanair, David O’Brien, commented “We are pleased to add London Southend Airport to our UK base network.”

The announcement will bring an increasing number of passengers to the expanding airport, as well as creating 750 new jobs. Warwick Brady, CEO of the Stobart Group who operate London Southend, added “We have a clear and focused strategy to grow our airport to welcome over 5m passengers a year by 2022. This news will help us achieve that aim.”
