United Airlines has announced on its blog that it will add a premium economy option to select international flights later this year, bringing it in line with rival US carriers and European airlines.
United will call the seats Premium Plus, and the seats will include many of the amenities currently offered to business class passengers, including china dinnerware, free alcohol, a Saks Fifth Avenue blanket and pillow and an amenity kit.
The upgraded seats will also offer more legroom than regular economy seats, as well as a footrest.
Premium Plus was announced along with a raft of other plans for 2018 in a blog post by United CEO Oscar Munoz and president Scott Kirby, including a new version of the United app (see our interview with chief digital officer Linda Jojo), free personal device entertainment, faster in-flight wifi, the expansion of the United Polaris business class seats to more aircraft and a refresh of several United Club lounges in the US
