As part of the Government\u2019s ambition to build back a safer, fairer and more prosperous UK, the use of National Identity (ID) cards as a valid travel document to enter the UK is being phased out.<\/strong><\/p>\n This means that from 1 October 2021, most EU, EEA and Swiss nationals will need to use a valid passport to travel to the UK. This equates to around a third of all EEA and Swiss air passengers.<\/p>\n The change from 1 October means an ID card will no longer be accepted for travel to the UK, unless the exemptions apply.<\/p>\n Anyone travelling to the UK on an invalid travel document is liable to be refused entry at the border.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.10.4″ background_enable_image=”off” custom_padding=”100px|7%|100px|7%” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”WHY” _builder_version=”4.10.7″ locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ID cards are amongst the leastsecure travel documentsand they are often usedby organised crime groups.
